#Chapter 1: THE BOY WHO KEPT MOVING FORWARD

Essiet's adventure began early.

After his father traveled to Victoria, Southern Cameroons, in search of better opportunities, young Essiet remained with his mother and uncle. In December 1954, his uncle took him across the border to join his father.

He attended school in Eket and Victoria before entering Aggrey Memorial College, Arochukwu.

There, young Essiet quickly showed his academic ability. A double promotion in his first year enabled him to complete the five-year secondary program in only four years.

Then, in 1965, another adventure began—Lagos!

Essiet enrolled at Yaba College of Technology to become a Science Laboratory Technologist. He graduated in 1969 and began working at the Federal Institute for Industrial Research, Oshodi, during the turbulent Nigerian Civil War years.

In 1970, he moved to Nigeria's first petroleum refinery in Port Harcourt.

It was a promising career.

But Essiet wasn't satisfied.

There were too many things still to learn.

So he took another bold step—and moved to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

His lifelong habit was already forming:
